L Catterton-Backed Canidae Retains Hanold Associates for Head of HR Search

Canidae

L Catterton-backed Canidae has retained Hanold Associates for their Head of Human Resources search. Keri Gavin, Jason Hanold and Mayank Parikh are leading the search for this Stamford, Connecticut-based role.

Canidae is pet food made by pet people from the best-quality ingredients. More than twenty years ago, the company’s founders hand-delivered pet food from the backs of their pickup trucks. Now, Canidae offers several brands of pet food for both cats and dogs, made using the freshest, purest, safest ingredients. The high quality of these ingredients ensures that customers who purchase Canidae food know that they are making the best decision for the health of their pets. The company offers a range of products and formulas to target specific needs including food for senior and overweight pets and can be purchased nationwide at retailers and online.

With approximately $100M in annual revenue and approximately 110 employees, Canidae is just getting started. Recent backing from L Catterton, a private equity firm, ensures that the company has the best-available resources to grow. L Catterton has previous experience in the pet food industry including with Just Food for Dogs, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, and other industry leaders.

To ensure its products are made from the highest-quality ingredients, Canidae is getting more involved with the sourcing process of its raw ingredients. The company also operates with a smaller-batch manufacturing mentality, which helps to reduce Canidae’s ecological footprint. It also partners with organizations involved in humane animal activities and is looking to grow these partnerships in the future.

The Chief People Officer (CPO), a newly recreated role, will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for leading Human Resources initiatives across all levels of Canidae. The company is embarking on a significant transformation under its new CEO, and the CPO will be a key partner in driving a culture change, overhauling people practices, and creating an organization that is broadly considered to be a best place to work. He/she will need to put fundamental HR processes in place before moving on to long-term goals such as culture development, talent and performance management, talent acquisition and strategy, etc. The ideal candidate will be looking to learn and develop beyond just climbing the corporate ladder and will have a strong perspective on the business beyond the people. In addition, they should feel a connection to the company’s mission and have a genuine desire to help provide the best pet food customers can buy.
